Shea Belew Brennaman and Gracie had been the best of friends since Shea was 11 years old and Gracie was just 8 months old. Throughout middle school, high school, and college, Gracie was a rock for Shea.
During their friendship, Gracie also ended up making another close friend: a neighborhood cat who Shea called “Baby Grey.” Baby Grey would often visit Gracie, and come to the door when she wanted to play. The two of them developed a close bond, an unlikely friendship for a cat and dog.
Gracie, an American Eskimo dog, loved being outside and always looked forward to Baby Grey’s visits. Gracie always shared her treats and little tomatoes with Grey, and the two of them would always sunbathe together.
For more than two years, the two of them would have their playdates, until Gracie sadly passed away from Lymphoma at the age of 12.
“Baby Grey came to see her several times in her last days and, while there was no tomato eating, the two just laid there to be with each other,” Shea told The Dodo. “They had that kind of connection where nothing needed to be said or done. They just wanted to be with each other.”
